Artistry In A Smile

Just a block from Hyde Park's upscale shops and restaurants sits a small, elegant house decorated with antiques, comfortable living room furniture and soothing dark green walls. The attractive, Craftsmen style blends well with the historic neighborhood, which is exactly what Dr. Grant had in mind when she created The Hyde Park Center For Aesthetic Dentistry.

"I want my patients to feel completely relaxed and taken care of like they were in someone's home," says Dr. Grant, who blends aesthetic and general dentistry to provide a holistic and comprehensive approach for people of all ages, from children to adults.

"Patients want to look and feel their best and I can help them," says Dr. Grant. "I've seen wonderful transformations take place. Patients who might have been shy and reserved grow more confident and self-assured after their smile has been transformed. Cosmetic dentistry offers both physical and psychological benefits. It allows anyone to start over and reinvent themselves."

Dr. Grant grew up in Sarasota and showed an early interest in art, studying classical piano and taking classes at the renowned Ringling Museum of Art, even though by third grade she knew she wanted to be a dentist. Today, her practice combines the best of both worlds - the science of high-tech dentistry with the art of creating a beautiful smile. After a Bachelor of Arts degree in biology at Emory University in Atlanta, she received her Doctor of Dental Medicine at the University of Florida and then went on for further training at Baylor College of Dentistry in Texas, where she received a Certificate in Advanced Aesthetic General Dentistry. She is a member of the prestigious American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry.

One of the unique aspects of Dr. Grant's practice is her attention to detail. Patients make reservations, not appointments, and they receive blankets, neck and back pillows and lip balm for added comfort. They enjoy aromatherapy and tranquil music while undergoing procedures and can select nitrous oxide or valium sedation. The initial consultation takes about an hour. "We are moving more toward the concept of spa dentistry," says Dr. Grant. "Our patients appreciate the attention and education they receive here. My patients recognize my passion for dentistry."

Patients can also look through a "smile catalog" to find the image and style that best suits their personality and blends with their face - whether that is masculine, youthful, feminine, dominant, natural, Hollywood or something else. Dr. Grant explains that the shape of the teeth, whether oval, rounded, square, or tapered, can change someone's appearance. The teeth are also custom shaded to achieve the most natural color. "I work with a specialist who hand paints the porcelain for a perfect match with the patient's existing smile," says Dr. Grant.
